AI in Ecommerce

Hey Plateauers,

Hope you all had a nice weekend filled with summer fun. Ready to get back on the grind. Today we are going to talk about how to use AI today in your store today.

What is AI?

We have all been playing with chatGPT, which is basically an AI that has been trained on the internet. You can ask it some questions, and it will give you the right answers. Previously you had to large amounts of data to get anything close to a human-sounding answer. But by chatGPT learning the entire internet and using that to make human-sounding answers, we can then correct it a bit. That process is called fine-tuning, and open ai has a great guide on how to do (https://platform.openai.com/docs/guides/fine-tuning).

How do ecommerce shops use this?

You are probably now saying great, more useless information, but how do I use this to make money? 💡One of the more creative ways I have seen it used, is by making it your level 1 support. With Zappier and some fancy Excel sheets, this can become your level 1 support. (https://zapier.com/apps/gmail/integrations/openai) I would suggest starting off by creating drafts so that they aren’t directly answering customers. Then, as it gets better with your fine-tuning, it should be able to handle those really easily.

Another great example is flagging really important Slack messages. We use Slack like it is our HUD (heads-up display); all our data is shown in that. ChatGPT is really good at summarizing, so if an app puts a message in the channel, you can use Zapier to have ChatGPT reply and tag you on super important things.

We have tested a few chatbots that sit on your website, they really don’t help to sell. They actually push more customers away than anything with nonsensical answers. Plus, they usually take up more of that above-fold area that you want to capitalize on.

Let us know if you use any other chatGPT and zappier connections. We'd like to hear about and highlight some of those.
